Free breakfast to give all students best start to the day

Students at The Hewett Academy can start their day fuelled for learning at a new breakfast club that’s free for everyone.
Bagels, fruit, and healthy drink options will be on offer every day from 8.15 to 8.45am, starting on Monday, January 14.
The club is part of the National School Breakfast Programme, funded by the Department for Education and delivered by the charities Family Action and Magic Breakfast.
The scheme funds free breakfast provision for schools in disadvantaged areas, giving children the energy and nutrients they need for the school day.
Research shows that eating a healthy breakfast every day has a positive impact on children’s behaviour and ability to learn.
Principal Rebecca Handley-Kirk said: “This is a great opportunity for our students to enjoy a nutritious breakfast before school, while socialising with their friends and staff.”
David Holmes CBE, chief executive of Family Action, added: “Breakfast provision plays a key role in ensuring children have a healthy start to their day. Family Action is delighted to be working with the Department for Education and Magic Breakfast on this ground-breaking programme.”
